Hello and welcome to d3 Sports are a joke, where I talk about why d3 sports are, in fact, not a joke. My name is Kayla buck, and welcome to the show. Today we are talking to former Emerson men's soccer assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Liam McKersie about the circumstances of recruiting at the Division Three level. This will be the first segment of a series of stories discussing the nuance of recruiting at Emerson. Emerson is a very technical school in terms of programs offered, specializing in communications, the arts. McKersie talks about the program's approach on recruiting.

"It's a very inexact science, and everyone's process is very different. There's very focused majors, and there's really six that we focus on, I would say, the big one for where athletics and Emerson meet at a high level and also one that separates from what other division three schools typically offers a major sports communication. That would be one of the six, probably the number one, the other five journalism, film VMA, marketing, communications, the BCE program, and political communications, I might be missing one, but those those are six that we would really lean into. And if a player said they wanted something that related to those, we would be fairly aggressive in recruiting them because we want the right fit."

Coach McKersie also said that the structure of academics being heavily focused on experience and infield work at Emerson contributes to the appeal in terms of the academics. That's it for this segment of the show. Thank you for listening, and tune in to the next one
